BDPA Midwest Regional HSCC and IT Showcase

The BDPA Cincinnati chapter will be hosting the annual Midwest Regional High School Computer Competition and IT Showcase on Saturday, June 11th, 2011 at Cincinnati State College in Cincinnati, Ohio. The purpose of this Regional competition is to prepare the students for the upcoming National competition by giving them experience in what they should expect to see at the National, but on a smaller scale: the entire Regional competition is completed in one day. The students will be able to showcase their skills in a team oral exam, individual written exams, and developing a Web site using the same tools (ASP, ASP.NET, Java, PHP, MySQL, etc.), that will be available at the National competition.
We have invited BDPA chapters in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin to attend the event. It will begin with registration and breakfast at 7 A.M., and is slated to be completed by 6 P.M. the same day. Lunch and afternoon snacks will also be provided.
We would like each team to provide one adult to aid in the judging and $35 per student to help cover expenses. There will be dormitory rooms available both Friday and Saturday nights on Xavier’s campus within a short walk to the competition area. The dormitory rooms would be only for use by team member(s) and chaperones. Each room has two twin beds, and the rooms are situated as such so that there is one full bath for each set of two rooms.
The rooms are in a traditional style residence hall; the rates are:
·          Single Room:      $31/person/night
·          Double Room:      $23/person/night
·          Linens:                 $13.50/linen package/stay (all stays require a linen package)
 
If your chapter is planning to participate in the competition please reply to this e-mail and forward me the following information by May 25th:
·          Approximate number of attendees (students and adults)
·          Will you be able to provide an adult to help with the judging?
·          If you are planning on staying overnight:
1.      Which nights (you’re welcome to stay over Saturday night as well)
2.      How many single rooms you’ll need
3.      How many double rooms you’ll need
·          The name, email, and phone number for your chapter’s contact for correspondence, etc. for anything dealing with this competition.  
 
This year, the Cincinnati Chapter will host our 2 nd Annual IT Showcase, a one day event held during Midwest Regional Competition.
 
Presentations, both paper and poster of advanced computing topics are prepared by high school and college students from around the country. We are expecting 10-20 participants. The focus includes, but is not limited to, intelligent technologies (i.e., smart toys, machine learning, and genetic algorithms), wearable computing technologies, web technologies; parallel computing technologies, computing curricula, computer graphics technologies, etc. Research papers are published in the conference proceedings. Demonstrations will be incorporated in the presentations where applicable.
Presentations/projects will be judged. A panel of three Judges will determine the students who will receive awards. Three awards will be given for First, Second and Third Place.
